EuCornea's Harminder Dua honoured

Professor Harminder Dua, founding director, board member and former president of EuCornea, has been appointed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for Services to Ophthalmology. He received the honour for his services to eye healthcare, health education and ophthalmology. “I am humbled by this great national honour, which reflects the glory of the whole team and individuals and institutions that have influenced my career, in which the EuCornea among others, figures prominently. The thoughts and vision in the creation of EuCornea has been borne out and will endure through time.” Professor Dua was one of the founding members of EuCornea and served as the society’s president from 2011 to 2013. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of J.EuCornea, the official journal of EuCornea. Professor Dua also won international recognition when he and his research group discovered a previously undetected layer of the human cornea in 2013. The Pre-Descemet layer is now popularly known as Dua’s Layer. The discovery of Dua’s Layer was presented to the ophthalmic community for the very first time during the EuCornea Medal Lecture presented by Professor Dua at the EuCornea congress in Milan in September 2012. In 2009 he co-founded EuCornea with professors Vincenzo Sarnicola, Francois Malecaze and José Güell. Professor Dua is Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, in the Division of Clinical Neuroscience, School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham and Head of the Division of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Nottingham, UK.
