Upload dosage in DME treatments under scrutiny
Patients with diabetic macular oedema (DME) may need less than the usual recommended dose of three monthly injections of ranibizumab during the initial loading phase of their treatment, according to a presentation here.
“In our study group the results showed that the uploading dosage of intravitreal ranibizumab should not necessarily include three injections, as the best-corrected visual acuity and recidivism of DME was not found to be directly correlated to the number of injections,” said Tatjana Josifova MD, PhD, University Eye Clinic Basel, Basel, Switzerland.
“We advise monthly OCT and BCVA controls in order to make the decision for the need of further application of ranibizumab injections.”
