Steve Charles MD accepted the 2018 Charles D Kelman Innovator’s Award from ASCRS Annual Meeting Program Chair Edward J Holland MD and Anne Kelman at the ASCRS/ASOA Annual Congress in Washington, DC. In his lecture, Dr Charles, who played a major role in developing vitrectomy and other ophthalmic surgery devices and systems, emphasised the role of collaboration among hundreds of surgeons and engineers in developing brilliant ideas into the highly refined, integrated and efficient systems surgeons rely on every day to produce excellent patient outcomes.
