The Polish Society of Ophthalmology (pol. Polskie Towarzystwo Okulistyczne, PTO) evolved in 1911 from the Warsaw Society of Ophthalmologists (started in 1908). Its first president was Bolesław Wicherkiewicz (1847-1915). Since 1924, PTO has published “Klinika oczna” (Acta Ophthalmologica Polonica). The society has been expanding since the beginning of twentieth century. Currently PTO consists of over 3,000 members in 14 regions of Poland. The president is chosen by members every three years. The current president is Prof. Jacek Szaflik from the Medical University of Warsaw. The board of the Polish Ophthalmological Society consists of 12 members. The 25th ESCRS Winter Meeting Virtual 2021 is being held in conjunction with the Cataract and Refractive Surgery Section of the PTO, where Prof Mrukwa-Kominek is the chairwoman.
