Henahan Prize Essay Competition Reveals Latent Talent In Next Generation Of Ophthalmic Surgeons

The winner of this year’s John Henahan writing prize for Young Ophthalmologists is Lampros Lamprogiannis, a resident ophthalmologist in the 4th Ophthalmology Department of AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece.

His winning entry was on the topic of “How Do I See Cataract Surgery in 30 years?” The chairman of the judging panel Emanuel Rosen, chief medical editor of EuroTimes, congratulated Dr Lamprogiannis on his success.

“We had a huge response to the invitation for young ophthalmologists to participate in the 2014 Henahan Prize essay competition which revealed the latent talent in the next generation of ophthalmic surgeons,” said Dr Rosen.

“The task was to predict what cataract and refractive surgery would be like 30 years hence, a difficult task when looking back. “30 years showed that new technology inventions and applications were impossible to predict. The winning entry showed imagination and reality in equal measures,” he said.
