As surgeons get busier, it can be harder to keep up with all the developments in the fast-changing world of ophthalmology. The internet offers a fast, efficient and convenient way for surgeons to get informed and stay up to date. But with so many resources out there, how can one be sure of the quality? Where can a surgeon go for trusted, useful and usable information? The ESCRS is trying to make it easier with the ESCRS Education Portal, The ESCRS Education Portal is a one-stop shop for a range of resources that you can access on any device. Get those all-important textbooks and reference manuals for beginners and more advanced surgeons. ESCRS and the Wisepress.com online bookshop have teamed up to provide a 15% discount through the ESCRS Education Portal. Learn from international opinion leaders with Eye Contact video interviews about approaches to surgery and case management, new research, or even key theoretical aspects of the subspecialty. Surgical videos are also available, which demonstrate important and remarkable cases and techniques. The well known and respected Video Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (hosted by Robert Osher) is also available. Each edition considers a theme and shows a range of interesting cases and techniques. Young ophthalmologists also share their surgeries and describe the challenges they face in learning surgery: this is a boon to trainers (who can gain better understanding of the challenges younger surgeons perceive) and trainees (who can learn how others overcame those challenges). To keep up with the latest research and opinion, users can access landmark articles through the ESCRS Education portal. These are selected by the Publications Committee from worldwide high-quality, peer-reviewed journals. JCRS Online Case Reports will show you how the theory is put into practice: an invaluable tool to transfer “knowing what” to “knowing how” when managing your cases. All of these resources are free to use, demonstrating the society’s ongoing commitment to education, excellence and innovation in the world of anterior segment surgery. For ESCRS members, the Education Portal also hosts the ESCRS’s own online learning platforms: ESCRS iLearn offering interactive and CME-accredited eLearning content, and ESCRS On Demand, an online library of presentations from past ESCRS Congresses and Winter meetings. The ESCRS Education Portal has established itself as a key resource for those seeking to enhance their learning activity, and is still growing. The team is happy to receive suggestions and feedback at education@escrs.org.
