Death of Dr David Apple

Dr David Apple died on August 18, 2011 at the age of 69.
'David was a most assiduous and enthusiastic supporter of the ESCRS and each year he made many unique contributions to our understanding of the pathophysiology of lens implantation,' said Dr Emanuel Rosen, ESCRS Board member and a friend and colleague of Dr Apple's.
'David Apple combined a superb intellect with an encyclopaedic knowledge of ophthalmology and ophthalmic pathology a combination of talents that found an outlet in the practice of cataract surgery at the right time in its evolution. In recognition of his many achievements he was awarded the Ridley Gold Medal at the XVII ESCRS Congress, Vienna, Austria, in September 1999,' said Dr Rosen, 'We extend our sympathy and condolences to his wife Ann and all his friends and family.'
