A  study led by Brown University researchers has found that ophthalmology residents across the U.S. face a substantial burden of burnout and depression, which may affect both the residents themselves and  the quality of care they deliver . The study, which involved a survey of  residents completing their graduate medical training , suggests there are  opportunities for the specialty's residency programs to improve and promote initiatives, from nutritional seminars to exercise classes and one-on-one counseling. A majority of the survey's respondents—68 percent—reported problems with depression, burnout or suicide in their residency programmess within the past year. The results were published in JAMA Ophthalmology.
