Neodymium:YAG capsulotomy rates associated with femtosecond laser-assisted versus manual cataract surgery.

YAG rates lower with FLACS

The Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy rates tend to be lower among patients who undergo femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) than they are among those undergoing standard surgery, according to a retrospective chart analysis study . It showed that in 1422 eyes that underwent cataract surgery between August 2011 and August 2013, capsulotomy rates were significantly lower in the femtosecond laser–assisted cataract surgery group (11.6%) than in the manual group 15.2% (P = .04). The study also found that capsulotomy rates were highest in both treatment groups with accommodating IOLs without any significant between group difference. However, the capsulotomy rates were significantly lower in FLACS treated eyes with multifocal and monofocal IOLs.
