Results
An 82-year-old woman with a medical history of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, and ophthalmological history of left eye drainage surgery (13 years ago) and left eye pseudophakia (1 year ago) presents with chronic tearing in both eyes and blurred vision in the right eye. The examination reveals symblepharons with obliteration of the inferior conjunctival fornix. The cornea shows signs of bilateral degeneration. Probing of the lacrimal ducts shows no bone contact. This is related to chronic fibrosing conjunctivitis in both eyes, complicated by bilateral bi-canalicular stenosis.
Conclusion
Fibrosing conjunctivitis is a condition that falls within the spectrum of systemic diseases and requires a multidisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic approach. Performing biopsies with histopathological examination is essential to determine the underlying cause.
