Purpose
Purpose of work. To analyze the results of surgical treatment in traumatic cataract complicated by ocular hypertension.
Setting
Damage to the visual organ in pediatric patients often leads to the development of traumatic cataract.
Methods
Materials. Outpatient cards and medical histories of 48 patients of the pediatric department of the NOC named after acad. Z. Aliyeva diagnosed with traumatic cataract for the period 2018-2023 were studied. The patients' age was from 1 year to 16 years: 1-4 years - 5 patients, 5-8 years - 14 patients, 9-12 years - 15 children, 13-16 years - 14 patients. Patients were prescribed routine ophthalmological examinations, primary surgical treatment of the wound was performed if necessary, and drug treatment was prescribed. Optical reconstructive surgeries with restoration of the structures of the eyeball, phacoaspiration with implantation of an intraocular lens were performed.
Results
Results. In the younger age subgroup, ophthalmic hypertension was observed in 6 patients. Visual acuity was 0.1-0.2. In the 2nd age group, early secondary hypertension was observed in 8 patients. Vision was 0.3-0.4, then increase till 0.7-0.8. In the older age group, secondary ophthalmic hypertension was stated in 8 cases. Visual functions were 70-80%. All patients experienced stabilization of intraocular pressure.
Conclusion
The results of surgical treatment of traumatic cataract depend on the degree of damage to the structures of the eyeball and the presence of complications.
