Purpose

To investigate the correlation of thin cornea with intraocular pressure on several devices and to determine the most accurate device for determining the target pressure of the patient for the management of their further treatment.

Setting

Devices, such as Biometer, keratotopograph, iCare and pneumotonometer provided by clinical academic base of Bogomolets National Medical University: Kyiv, Ukraine - The Medical Center «Ochi Clinic»: Kyiv, Ukraine.

Methods

We enrolled 10 patients aged 40 to 88 years as participants, who has corneal thickness less than 445 μm. Intraocular pressure was measured by 4 different methods: 1. Pneumotonometer with pachymetry (Topcon Corporation, Japan). 2. iCare (iCare Health Technologies, Finland). 3. Pneumotonometer with The Argos Biometer (Alcon, USA). 4. Pneumotonometer with Keratotopograph (Schwind, Germany)

Results

20 eyes were included in the study, 73% were male, median age 60,5 years. The significant differences were observed by measuring intraocular pressure for both eyes with corneal thickness less than 445 μm by using 4 different approaches across all patients.

Conclusion

Based on the data presented, the following generalizations can be made: 1. In patients with a corneal thickness of less than 445 μm, it is advisable to perform pachymetry and compare their results using several devices. 2. The most sensitive device for determining the target intraocular pressureis the keratotopograph, compared to others. 3. According to the keratotopograph data, it is possible to determine the true intraocular pressure of the patient mathematically, set the level of the target pressure, and adjust the appropriate treatment tactics.
