Purpose

The Internet database IOLCon (www.iolcon.org), founded in 2017, has now established itself as a globally available, reliable source for optimized IOL constants and specifications. The Lens Power Calculation Module (LPCM), based on the modern Castrop formula, is also made available free of charge to ophthalmic surgeons directly via the IOLCon website. In addition to these already extremely useful functions, IOLCon offers another service that will also simplify the documentation of the corresponding IOL.

Setting

Institute of Experimental Ophthalmology, Saarland University, Homburg/Saar, Germany and University Eye Clinic, Bogomolets National Medical University, Kyiv, Ukraine

Methods

Close cooperation between the Institute of Experimental Ophthalmology, University Homburg/Saar (Germany) and the University Eye Clinic, Bogomolets National Medical University, Kyiv (Ukraine).

Results

In addition to all the clear data, biometer manufacturers are going to also implement a QR code on the printout of their biometer, which contains all the data necessary to calculate the corresponding IOL. This QR code can be scanned with a simple handheld reader or with a smart phone. When the LPCM of the IOLCon page is opened, the data from the uploaded QR code is automatically transferred to the LPCM and can be used there immediately to calculate the corresponding IOL. The calculation by the LPCM supported in this way only takes a second. The user then only has to select the respective IOL model. In addition, the QR code can be used for documentation purpose in the patient´s file.

Conclusion

Since its official launch, IOLCon has continued to develop more and more benefits in order to meet the requirements of a modern biometric database. Today, IOLCon is an indispensable tool for modern cataract surgery and supports surgeons by manifold features.
