Purpose
The aim of the study is to evaluate the near, intermediate and distance visual acuity
performance of the AcrySof IQ Panoptix Toric (T4/T5/T6) of patients with high total
corneal astigmatism.
Setting
Goethe university hospital, Frankfurt
Methods
This retrospective, monocentric study included 32 eyes of patients with preoperative
high astigmatism of 1.5 to 3.0 diopters after implantation of a toric trifocal intraocular
lens (AcrySof IQ Panoptix Toric, T4/T5/T6). Inclusion criteria were a history of
bilateral cataract and/or refractive surgery with implantation of AcrySof IQ PanOptix
Toric IOL (T4/T5/T6) at the department of ophthalmology of the University Clinic in
Frankfurt/Germany. Patients with regular corneal astigmatism of at least >1.5D (total
corneal refractive power) measured with the Pentacam. Exclusion criteria were ocular
pathologies or previous surgeries with potential influence on the visual acuity.
Results
We analyzed 23 patients (32 eyes) with an average age of 55.84±10.6 years after
implantation of the AcrySof IQ Panoptix Toric (T4/5/6). The mean spherical lens
power implanted was 17.45±5.59 diopters with a mean astigmatism of 2.98 ± 0.65
diopters. Preoperative monocular UDVA and DCVA at 4-meter distance was
0.72±0.41 and 0.15 ± 0.20 logMAR with a spherical equivalent (SE) of -2.25±3.57
diopters. Three months postoperative monocular UDVA and DCVA were 0.05±0.10
and -0.01±0.06 logMAR. The SE after three months was 0.11±0.28 diopters with a
mean residual astigmatism of -0.28±0.36. UIVA and UNVA were 0.12±0.12 and
0.23±0.19 logMAR, respectively.
Conclusion
Visual performance of the AcrySof IQ Panoptix Toric IOL showed good visual acuity
at all distances for patients with high total corneal astigmatism.
