Purpose
To evaluate clinical and patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) in myopic post-LASIK patients implanted with two models of a novel, super-aspheric, inverted meniscus intraocular lens (IOL), ArtIOLs® 40 and ArtIOLs® 70 (Voptica SL, Murcia, Spain), designed to enhance depth of focus through different levels of induced negative spherical aberration (SA).
Setting
Oftalvist clinic of Murcia, Spain; University of Murcia, Spain
Methods
Ten cataract patients were implanted bilaterally with ArtIOLs® 40 and ArtIOLs® 70 to induce low and moderate values of spherical aberration respectively. All patients had previously undergone LASIK surgery to correct their myopia. The cataract surgery was performed first in the dominant eye with ArtIOLs® 40 and a week later in the fellow eye with ArtIOLs® 70. One month post-surgery, uncorrected visual acuity (UDVA) for distance, intermediate, and near (logMAR) was assessed both monocularly and binocularly. PROMs were collected from 8 patients using the Quality of Vision Questionnaire (QoV) and a Patient-Reported Spectacle Independence questionnaire (PRSIQ).
Results
Average binocular UDVA at far, intermediate, and near distances were 0.00, 0.01, and 0.09 logMAR, respectively. Monocular UDVA, UIVA, and UNVA for ArtIOLs® 40 were 0.02, 0.09, and 0.23 logMAR, and for ArtIOLs® 70 were 0.16, 0.02, and 0.10 logMAR. Most patients (87.5%) reported no glare or halos, with one patient experiencing only mild symptoms. None reported starbursts, and high levels of spectacle independence were observed: 100% reported no glasses use for distance and intermediate vision, and 87.5% for near vision.
