Purpose
To observe the trend of change of Crystalline Lens Rise over time in Indian Myopes implanted with phakic Intraocular Lenses, and the correlation of CLR with postoperative Vault
Setting
Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Ophthalmic Sciences, New Delhi, India
Methods
Ambispective, observational, cohort study
Results
77 eyes of 41 patients who underwent phakic intraocular lens implantation (EVO ICL V4c, STAAR) were observed postoperatively. Crystalline Lens Rise (CLR) measured on Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography (CASIA, Tomey) in Indian myopic eyes follow a normal distribution (using the Shapiro-Wilk test), ranging from -424 to +379 (average: -94.00 +/- 152.026), changed significantly over the period of observation of 3 months (p=0.002), with average CLR at 3 months postoperatively being -57.43 +/- 193.588. The CLR also negatively correlated with the vault at all time points.
Conclusion
CLR has an inverse relationship with postoperative vault, and is an important determinant of the postoperative course. CLR should be taken into consideration while choosing the size of the ICL.
