Purpose

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of employing off-label ray-tracing customization of a therapeutic excimer ablation in symptomatic eyes previously treated with LASIK.

Setting

The Laservision Clinical and Research Institute, Athens, Greece

Methods

15 consecutive cases of post LASIK treatments, in which quality of vision appeared compromised due to residual low and/or high order aberrations underwent enhancement with Ray-Tracing customization using the Wavelight Plus platform (Alcon/Wavelight, Erlagen, Germany). We evaluated preoperatively and up to 3 months postoperatively: uncorrected distance vision acuity (UDVA), corrected distance vision acuity (CDVA), refractive error, corneal tomography, spherical equivalent (SE), defocus equivalent (DE), high order aberrations (HOA) and contrast sensitivity

Results

At Month 3, uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) was 20/20 or better in 89.1% of eyes, 35.8% of eyes gained ≥1 line of UDVA. MRSE was within ±0.5 D in 92.0% of eyes.  Additionally, 76.2% of eyes had significant change in Higher Order Aberrations (HOAs).

Conclusion

Therapeutic Customization with raytracing may  offer significant improvement in the visual function in terms of reducing residual refractive error and improving the quality of vision in previously treated LASIK patients.
