To report the visual and refractive outcomes of the first SMILE Pro laser vision correction in a 40-year-old patient post LASEK eye surgery

Optegra Eye Hospital London

Preoperative manifest refraction was performed. Suitability for surgery was confirmed, and the patient was subsequently listed for BI SMILE Pro laser vision correction surgery  in February 2022. The Visumax 800® laser platform (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany) was used to create the small incision and lenticule for extraction.  Post operative refraction was performed at one month.  Surgery was uncomplicated. Pre op Rx was RE  Plano LE +0.25/-0.25@100. The patient achieved 20/16 UDVA in both eyes postoperatively. Postoperatively the patient experienced a corneal abrasion which subsequently healed. The patient was satisfied and is due to attend a final routine follow-up appointment prior to discharge.

This is the first report demonstrating the successful application of the SMILE Pro procedure in a patient that had undergone previous LASEK. Future longitudinal reports are warranted to confirm this approach.
