Purpose

To assess the efficacy of computerized vergence and accommodation training for asthenopia.

Setting

Krishna Eye Centre, Mumbai, India

Methods

Five sessions of vergence and accommodation training were given to 1222 subjects with Bynocs computerized software program in subjects having asthenopia symptom score of more than 12 and with either accommodation infacility or convergence insufficiency or both. History of migraine, sinusitis, spine problem and any intraocular surgery

Results

Out of 1222 symptomatic subjects, 489 (40 percent) had accommodation related issues, 428 (35percent) had accommodation & fusional vergence anomalies and 305 (25 percent) had convergence insufficiency. All subjects showed clinically significant reduction in asthenopia symptom score (p Values =0.0001) post 5 sessions of Bynocs therapy

Conclusions

Computerized vergence and accommodation training is effective in treating asthenopia. Need to conduct large scale study with control group to know the placebo / true effect of Bynocs computerized software program.
