Purpose
Te paper presents the case of a young woman who adressed to our service several years ago for a rrhegmatogenous retinal detachment in the right eye. The vitreoretinal surgery was performed in the first days after the event. She developed during the following years a series of complications on the affected eye.
Setting
The presented case is a female patient, 54 years old. She is followed up in our service since 2014.
Methods
The patient was first operated for RE retinal detachment in 2014. In 2015 she developed cataract in te same eye, related to the vitreoretinal surgery. The cataract surgery was performed in 2015 - phacoemulsification + PC IOL. Secondary glaucoma, related to the silicone oil, occured in the right eye of the patient after the first operation. The medical antiglaucoma treatment failed in time, requiring a surgery solution. In 2021 an implant of Ahmed valve was performed.
Results
It is a case of a rational and understandingpatient who followed strictly all medical inications from the day one she entered our clinic. Unfortunately, she developed most predictible complication. Fortunately, all eye conditions that occured were solved succesfully. At the moment, the eye pressure is constant normal, with stable visual status.
Conclusions
Retinal detachment is a serious condition with long term possible complications.
Regular follow up of the patient and prompt intervention in any situation that occure can assure an optimal preservationof the visual function and, implicit, of the quality of the life of the patient.
The cooperation of the patient is always important for the succes of every step of the therapy.
