Purpose
To compare visual outcomes and patient satisfaction following bilateral implantation of a non-diffractive extended vision intraocular lens (IOL) when targeting emmetropia versus mini-monovision
Setting
Iladevi Cataract & IOL Research Centre and Raghudeep Eye Hospital, Ahmedabad, India
Methods
Prospective, randomized controlled trial in 70 patients undergoing bilateral cataract surgery with non-diffractive,extended vision IOL randomized to:group I(n=35)IOL implantation with emmetropic target in both eyes, or group II(n=35 patients)IOL implantation with targeted mini-monovision(emmetropia in dominant eye and -0.5 diopters in non-dominant eye).Following were evaluated binocularly 1&6 months following second eye surgery: unaided and best corrected near visual acuity at 40 centimetres, unaided and best corrected distance visual acuity, unaided and best corrected intermediate visual acuity at 66cm.Mesopic contrast sensitivity(with and without glare), binocular defocus curve and patient satisfaction were also assessed 6 mths postop.
Results
Ongoing trial, results to be updated
Conclusions
Will be updated based on results of the ongoing trial
