Purpose

To report data on clinical results and patient satisfaction of a new intraocular lens (IOL) with enhanced function in intermediate range (TECNIS Eyhance® IOL) implanted in a real-world setting

Setting

Retrospective, non-comparative, single-center study

Methods

We retrospectively extracted data of patient records who underwent phacoemulsification and IOL implantation (TECNIS Eyhance®) in both eyes in our hospital between September 2020 and September 2021. Only patients’ data available at postoperative visit 4 weeks after surgery were considered in this study. We analysed all available data, incl. distance (6m) and intermediate (60-70cm) corrected and uncorrected visual acuity (monocular and binocular) (CDVA, DCIVA, UDVA, UIVA) and subjective refraction. Subjective visual contentment was assessed using a questionnaire with 1 corresponding to very good and 6 being unsatisfactory.

Results

Data of 41 patients were available, (82 eyes, mean age 70, 22 female). At 4 weeks postoperatively the mean UDVA was 0.11 (-0.10-0.40) in the right eyes (RE), 0.11 (0.00-0.30) in the left eyes (LE), and 0.05 (-0.10-0.30) binocularly. The mean CDVA was 0.07 (-0.10-0.20) in the RE, 0.05 (0.00-0.20) in the LE, and 0.02 (-0.10-0.20) binocularly. The mean UIVA was 0.23 (-0.10-0.60) in the RE, 0.23 (-0.10-0.60) in the LE, and 0.16 (-0.20-0.60) binocularly. The mean DCIVA was 0.16 (0.00-0.80) in the RE, 0.14 (-0.10-0.60) in the LE, and 0.12 (-0.10-0.50) binocularly. Satisfaction with IOL was on average 1.82 for distance and 2.15 for intermediate vision. Visibility of car dashboards was possible in 100%, computer work in 93% and reading in 67%.

Conclusions

In patients undergoing cataract surgery, TECNIS Eyhance® IOL provided good unaided distance and intermediate vision with visibility of car dashboards in 100%, computer work in 93% and reading in 67% of the cohort.
