Purpose

Regarding cataract, Surgery is always considered the only option for it. No anti cataracts are used up till now for the treatment of cataracts. The objective of this systematic review is to focus on different evidence available related to the use of lanosterol in the treatment of cataracts.

Setting/Venue

This systamatic review in being conducted online and includes original research papers.

Methods

PubMed/Medline, Science Direct, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were used to find the research done related to the use of lanosterol in the treatment of cataracts.

Results

this systamatic review includes 10 studies. 8 studies showed that lanosterol was effective in the treatment of cataracts while 2 showed that lanosterol did not reverse cataracts. 

Conclusions

Most of the studies shows that lanosterol can be used as pharmacotherapy for the treatment of cataract. It can become future drugs for the treatment of cataracts and can replace surgery. Further clinical trials are needed in this regard.
