Results After The Implantion Of Vivity® Lens In Patients Who Have Undergone Macular Surgery.

To evaluate whether Vivity® intraocular lens could be indicated in patients with catarcat who had undergo macular surgery.

For this purpose, we selected 15 patients who had undergone macular surgery: 12 for epiretinal membrane removal and 3 for macular hole closure. The inclusion criteria were: age less than 75 years, presence of cataract grade N4 or greater, ectopic inner foveal layers absence after the epirretinal membrane surgery, and ellipsoid layer recovery after the macular hole surgery. Three months after the cataract surgery, we evaluated the uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance (CDVA), intermediate (CIVA) and near (CNVA) visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, defocus curve and the perceived quality of life (CATQUEST) . The time between surgeries was less than a year in all cases, and the same surgeon performed both surgeries. 

Pending on the analysis of the last four patients, we have found results better than expected, with a mean UDVA of 0,1 logMAR (0,8 decimal), a mean CVDA <0,1 logMAR (0,9 decimal), and a mean CIVA <0,2 logMAR (0,7 decimal). The CNVA was 0,4 logMAR, but we consider that this is due to the lens design since it is classified as an EDOF. The defocus curves and contrast sensitivity were the expected for an EDOF lens, not worse than those obtained in patients without retinal pathology. The CATQUEST test shows satisfying results in all cases so far.

Vivity® IOL seems to be an option to consider in patients with cataract and history of macular surgey (with good anatomical result). Further studies are needed in order to settle this option.
