Purpose

To evaluate the subjective and objective outcomes following bilateral implantation of EDOF AcrySof® IQ Vivity® (Alcon Inc., USA) IOL.

Setting

Non comparative, retrospective clinical study

Methods

This study included consecutive patients scheduled to undergo cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery. Manifest refraction, uncorrected visual acuity (uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA, 60 cm) and uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA, 40 cm), presence of dysphotopsia, need for spectacles, the presence of posterior capsule opacification and visual function were evaluated at 3 months after surgery.

Results

We included 46 eyes (23 patients; age 58±5.3 years). 21.7% of eyes required toric IOL. Best-corrected visual acuity improved from 0.5±0.2 LogMAR to 0.08±0.0 LogMAR (p<0.01). Refractive outcome was very good for far and intermediate visions, whereas a spherical addition of at least+1.5D was required for near vision. Only one patient reported moderate halos but this did not prevent him from regular activities. The analysis of the VF-14 questionnaire showed excellent results with a mean score of 92.79± 2.2 in our study. The presence of posterior capsule opacification was not noted.

Conclusions

The AcrySof IQ Vivity extended depth of focus IOL provides an expanded range of vision and spectacle independence with high rates of satisfaction and a favorable dysphotopsia profile.
