Abstract Details

To evaluate the short-term clinical outcomes of mix-and-match cataract surgery using Extended Depth of Focus(EDOF) and diffractive multifocal(DMF) intraocular lens(IOL).

Department of Ophthalmology, Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan, College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea

Fourteen patients with bilateral cataract were enrolled and followed for at least 3 month. Distance, intermediate and near vision, depth of focus, spherical aberration, and defocus curve were measured before and 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery.

The mean UCDVA at 1 month after surgery was 0.1±0.82 logMAR in EDOF eyes, 0.09±0.64 logMAR in DMF eyes and 0 logMAR in both eyes. The mean UCIVA was 0.3±1.05 logMAR in EDOF eyes, 0.25±0.70 logMAR in DMF eyes and 0.19±0.92 logMAR in both eyes. The mean UCNVA was 0.23±0.20 logMAR in EDOF eyes, 0.28±0.68 logMAR in DMF eyes and 0.22±0.85 in both eyes. Only one patient complained of glare and halo. The mean reading distance after surgery was 41cm, and near spectacles independency was achieved at 90% of the patients.

Mix-and-match cataract surgery with EDOF and DMF IOL is expected to improve the patient's satisfaction by lowering the glasses dependency and showing good correction of the distance, intermediate and near vision without serious photic phenomenon.
