Abstract Details

To study the one year results after flap lift more than ten years after primary LASIK treatment

Private Ophthalmic Clinic

Prospective study including patients who undergo flap lift for treatment of residual refractive errors more than ten years after previous LASIK. Corrected and uncorrected visual acuity, complications, refractive outcome and refractive stability are all studied.

Twenty seven eyes of seventeen patients are so far included in this ongoing study. LogMAR uncorrected distance vision was 0,92 (SD 0,35) before the first LASIK treatment of a mean spherical equivalent of -3,24 (SD 2,17) diopters. Eleven years (SD 1,2) after the first treatment, the uncorrected logMAR distance vision was 0,33 (SD 0,13) and all the patients underwent further treatment though flap lift. One year after this second treatment the distance visual acuity was 0,05 (SD 0,04) and the residual refractive error -0,03 diopters (SD 0,24).

Flap lift many years after original LASIK is safe and effective when no complications appear. Surgical difficulties and epithelial ingrowth remain the main concerns.
