ESCRS has pledged to support ORBIS and OXFAM projects in Africa. The target is to raise a total of €50,000 by the end of 2011, which will be divided between the two projects in the following way:
ESCRS is supporting the development of a paediatric eye care service at the Gondar Referral Hospital in Ethiopia. Funds donated would be utilised
in the following way:
Training and Human Resource Development – Total €25,000
Ophthalmologist fellowship on Paediatric Ophthalmology for 6 months in Tanzania
Outreach meetings and training for Paediatric Ophthalmologist
Training for one Equipment technician and one Paediatric coordinator in 2011
Running a hospital-based programme in Gondar with two ORBIS volunteers on Paediatric Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, Cornea, Retina and Oculoplastics

ESCRS is supporting an ongoing long-term programme in Uganda to provide safe water and sanitation, contributing to improved health and education in the target communities. Long-term development projects help to provide communities with some resilience to crises such as the current situation in East Africa.
Uganda Direct: Water and Sanitation Health (WASH) Programme – Total €25,000
Supporting a Public Health Team Leader to implement the WASH Programme in Kitgum and Lamwo
Constructing Water Kiosks and Water Pumps in the most over-populated host villages
Providing training to Water Users Community Committees to enable them to maintain water points
on a long-term basis, providing safe water and a sustainable source of maintenance income
