General Video Rules & Regulations
Deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 April 2008.
Entries for the Video Competition and the Video Symposium must also include the video.
The deadline for submission of videos for the Video Competition is 15 April 2008.
Deadline for submission of videos for the Video Symposium is 31 May 2008.
  • The total duration of the videos, including title and credits, must not exceed 8 minutes.
  • The video must include a narration, music alone will not be accepted.
  • The title and narration of the video must be in English.
  • There are 3 categories of video presentation:
  • No more than 2 videos may be submitted by an author in any video category.
  • Videos for the Video Library must not be sent to the ESCRS Office in advance, but should be delivered directly to the Video Library at the Congress Centre in Berlin on Saturday 13 or Sunday 14 September 2008.
  • As your video will not be returned, do not send the master copy.
ESCRS/ALCON Video Competition

Both an Abstract Form and a Video must be submitted in order for an entry to be considered by the judges.

The deadline for submission of abstract and video is 15 April 2008.

Entries are accepted in the following categories:

Educational
Innovative
Scientific
Special Cases
Young Ophthalmologists

Authors entering a video in the Young Ophthalmologists category should be not more than 40 years of age. The video should have been made under the supervision of a department chief only, and no more assistance than that should have been received. Authors must be entering the Video Competition for the first time.

An international team of experts will judge the entries. First, second and third prizes will be awarded in each category. There will also be an overall winner.

Winners must be present at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday 14 September in order to receive their prize.

  • All entries must be in videotape or DVD format as they have to be compiled onto master disks for circulation to the judges.
  • Only VHS, SVHS, mini DV and DVD in PAL Format will be accepted for the Video Competition.
  • Under no circumstances will CD-Roms and videotapes in NTSC format be accepted.
  • The total duration of the video, including title and credits, must not exceed 8 minutes.
  • Videos that are not directly related to cataract and refractive surgery will not be accepted.
  • Videos which promote a company name or logo, acknowledge sponsorship or promote commercial products, will be not be accepted.
  • Generic names should be used instead of product names, where possible.
  • Instruments can be shown briefly, but not exceeding 10 seconds.
  • Videos will not be accepted for the Video Competition if they have been presented anywhere in the world in previous years. However, videos shown at other congresses during the current year will be accepted.
  • No more than 2 videos will be accepted from any author.
  • The decision of the Video Competition Judges and Chairman will be final and binding.
  • Send only 1 copy of your video and make sure it is labelled. Send your video to:

Video Symposium on Challenging Cases

The Video Symposium on Challenging Cases will take place on Saturday 13 September. Videos accepted for the Symposium will be viewed and discussed during the session.

  • Videos for the Video Symposium must be related to the Congress topics.
  • The abstract submission deadline is 15 April 2008 and the video submission deadline is 31 May 2008.
  • No more than 2 videos will be accepted from any author.
  • All entries must be in videotape or DVD format as they have to be compiled onto master disks for circulation to the Symposium Chairman.
  • Only VHS, SVHS, mini DV and DVD in PAL Format will be accepted for the Video Symposium.
  • Under no circumstances will CD-Roms and video tapes in NTSC format be accepted.
  • Send only 1 copy of your video and make sure it is labeled.
    Send your video to:

Video Library

The Video Library will be open throughout the hours of the Congress. The Library provides a resource for delegates to review the surgical techniques of the experts attending the Congress.

  • Videos for the Video Library must be related to the Congress topics.
  • The abstract submission deadline is 15 April 2008.
  • No more than 2 videos will be accepted from any author.
  • Only VHS, SVHS, mini DV and DVD in PAL Format will be accepted for the Video Library.
  • Under no circumstances will CD-Roms and videotapes in NTSC format be accepted.
  • Video tapes must be delivered directly to the Video Library in the Congress Centre on Saturday 13 or Sunday 14 September 2008
